Kristi Acker, DNP, PhD, FNP-BC, AOCNP, ACHPN
Family Nurse Practitioner- Board Certified (FNP-BC);
Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP);
Advanced Certified Hospice & Palliative Nurse (ACHPN)
As full time Clinical Assistant Professor at the Capstone College of Nursing, Dr. Acker maintains a robust clinical practice in oncology. She graduated from UA in 1992 with her BSN and has been a Nurse Practitioner for over 20 years.
Dr. Acker mentors professionalism and advocates for competency-based clinical practice. Her reach for maintaining excellence in practice exceeds the confines of practice and is extended to advancing quality and safe healthcare delivery across the nation. Locally, her influence on practice is evidenced by participation on the State Advisory Council on Palliative Care and Quality of Life (second term). She's served as the state representative for the American Cancer Society's Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) in advocating for the bi-partisan Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act (PCHETA). The PCHETA legislation is aimed to improve training and increase the clinical workforce in palliative care, which directly impacts clinical practice by supporting the APRN workforce.
Currently, Dr. Acker serves on the Board of Directors for the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA) and volunteers annually for community events, such as providing free clinical breast exams for the Latina population. She is actively engaged in numerous local and national professional organizations and contributes to numerous clinical based educational textbooks and/or clinical resources, and other educational programs. In June, 2020, Dr. Acker will join other leaders, who contribute to meaningful improvements in healthcare and the nurse practitioner role, as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP).
